Mental Health Awareness Week 2025: The Power of Community

Mental Health Awareness Week 2025: The Power of Community

This Mental Health Awareness Week (May 12–18, 2025), the focus is on something that affects us all — community. Whether it's sharing a moment with a neighbour, joining a local event, or simply checking in with a friend, this year’s theme reminds us that mental health is not a solo journey.

At Monty Booch, we believe that caring for yourself and connecting with others go hand-in-hand — and sometimes, something as simple as a shared drink, a walk with a friend, or a familiar face at a market stall can make all the difference.

Why Community Matters for Mental Health

Human connection is a powerful thing. Studies have shown that people with strong social networks tend to have lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Feeling part of something — whether it’s a family, a friend group, a team, or a local community — builds resilience and reminds us we’re not alone.

In an age of endless digital noise, real connection — eye contact, conversation, shared laughter — is more valuable than ever.

5 Ways to Strengthen Your Mental Health Through Community

To honour this year’s theme, here are five small, meaningful ways to nurture both your mental wellbeing and your connection to others:

1. Reach Out First
Send a message. Invite someone for a walk. Say hello to the person who always walks their dog past your house. Sometimes, taking the first step can lead to the connection you didn’t know you needed.

2. Share a Ritual
A warm drink, a homemade meal, a bottle of kombucha — when we share something nourishing, we’re also sharing care. Invite a friend over, or bring something thoughtful to someone’s door.

 3. Move Together
Whether it’s a walk, a stretch, or dancing in the kitchen, movement boosts our mood. It’s even better when done together. Join a class, start a walking group, or just walk and talk.

4. Join or Build Something
Look for local events, workshops, or volunteering opportunities. Communities thrive when people show up — and sometimes, all it takes is one person to bring people together.

💬 5. Talk Openly About Mental Health
Conversations change lives. By speaking honestly about how we’re feeling, we make it safer for others to do the same. Ask, listen, and share when you're ready.

Community Is at the Heart of What We Do

At Monty Booch, we’ve seen first-hand how food, ritual, and shared experience can bring people together. Whether we’re popping up at markets, collaborating with local growers, or hearing stories from our customers — it's amazing what those conversations do for my own mental health.

This week, take a moment to connect. With yourself. With someone else. With your community.

Because mental health is something we build — together.
