Monty Booch - Building a No Waste, Sustainable Company

At Monty Booch, we’re not just brewing kombucha; we’re building a business that treads lightly on the planet. We're firmly of the opinion a business can be successful whilst also being a force for good. From day one, we’ve been committed to reducing waste, supporting our local community, and rethinking what sustainability looks like in a small, independent drinks company.

We’re not perfect. We’re not certified organic. But what we are is intentional—about what we source, how we package, and what we send back into the world.

Local First

Whenever possible, we source our ingredients from within a 100-mile radius. That means fewer food miles, fresher ingredients, and stronger relationships with nearby growers and suppliers. It’s not about ticking a box—it’s about keeping things close to home.

Return and Reuse: Our Bottle Scheme

Glass has a footprint—but reusing it dramatically reduces it. That’s why we incentivise our customers to return their empty Monty Booch bottles. In return, they get store credit, and we get to sterilise, relabel and reuse each bottle for the next batch. No waste, just smart circular thinking.

Waste That Doesn’t Go to Waste

Our production process is designed to be as low-waste as possible. Here's how we handle leftovers:

  • Tea, lemon, and ginger scraps? Composted.
  • Flavour fruits and berries? Fed to our chickens.
  • Discarded SCOBYs (a.k.a. pellicles)? Same—they go to the hens or into the compost pile.

It’s a closed loop that nourishes the soil, supports our animals, and keeps organic matter out of landfill.

Packaging With Purpose

When we ship trade orders, we reuse our bottle packaging again—because it’s sturdy, perfectly suited, and keeps waste out of the system. We seal all our parcels with eco-friendly tape, and we're always looking for more sustainable alternatives in every aspect of our packaging and logistics.

What’s Next?

As we grow, we’re dreaming even bigger. We're exploring ways to power our future with solar and wind energy, reducing our dependence on the grid and shrinking our carbon footprint even further. We’re also planning to grow more of our own ingredients, think herbs & berries to cut back on transport and take even more ownership of our supply chain. We aim to have a full sustainability roadmap in place within 12 Months which will govern how we build Monty Booch for years to come.

Sustainability isn’t a finish line; it’s a mindset. One step, one brew, one bottle at a time, we’re working toward a truly regenerative business that gives back more than it takes.

At Monty Booch, we’re proud of how far we’ve come in a short time and excited about where we’re going.
