Our Favourite Michelin-Starred Restaurants
At Monty Booch, we’re passionate about exceptional food and drink. While our kombucha isn’t (yet!) featured in any Michelin-starred restaurants, we love exploring the very best dining experiences the UK has to offer. Here are three of our favourite Michelin-starred restaurants, each offering a unique and unforgettable culinary experience.
Le Champignon Sauvage – Cheltenham
Tucked away in the picturesque spa town of Cheltenham, Le Champignon Sauvage is a true gem in the UK’s fine dining scene. With Chef David Everitt-Matthias at the helm for over 30 years, this restaurant has earned a stellar reputation for its refined yet deeply flavourful dishes. The menu is a masterclass in modern British cuisine, often featuring locally foraged ingredients and exquisite flavour combinations.
We've had the fortune to dine here on 3 occasions, and all 3 have been a great experience, including having Tom Kerridge and his team on the table next to us on one visit, and my Father in Law somehow making a cheese Sandwich from the cheese board on another. Expect dishes like venison with black garlic purée or a delicate Dexter beef tartare with wasabi cream. The desserts are equally outstanding, often incorporating unexpected elements like herbs and spices to create a perfect balance of flavours. One of my fondest memories is the bacon and shallot brioche handed out at the start of the meal, it is truly a taste masterclass. If you appreciate artistry on a plate, this restaurant is a must-visit.
The Nut Tree Inn – Murcott
If you’re looking for Michelin-starred food in a more relaxed and rustic setting, The Nut Tree Inn in Murcott is a perfect choice. Housed in a charming 15th-century thatched pub in rural Oxfordshire, this restaurant blends the warmth of a country inn with the precision of fine dining. Chef Mike North has crafted a menu that celebrates British classics, using the best seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.
Their signature beer-battered fish and triple-cooked chips might just be the best you’ll ever taste, and their slow-cooked meats are melt-in-the-mouth perfection. The tasting menu is precise and seasonal, and an unexpected chocolate egg adds a memorable experience. The atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious, making it a fantastic spot for both special occasions and casual indulgence. We even managed to walk away with a loaf of bread after one Sunday lunch service...
The Star Inn – Harome
A thatched-roof gastropub set in the North Yorkshire countryside, The Star Inn is a Michelin-starred haven for those who love bold flavours and hearty portions. Chef Andrew Pern combines traditional Yorkshire ingredients with fine dining techniques, resulting in a menu that is both innovative and deeply comforting.
Dishes like braised ox cheek with horseradish mash or Whitby crab with garden-fresh herbs showcase the best of local produce. The warm, welcoming atmosphere and exceptional wine list make The Star Inn a standout destination for food lovers looking to enjoy Michelin-starred cooking in a relaxed and cosy setting.
